Budapest Institute for Urban Planning (BUVÁTI) (1950-1982),
editor, designer, head of department, head of department, deputy static chief engineer;
Institute of Design Development and Technology (TTI) (1982-1992), Chief Static Engineer, Corporate
President of the Council; BME (1991- ) professor, head of department (until 1965), Habilitation
and Doctoral Committee Chairman (until 2000), then member. Prof emeritus. (since 2000)
Professional honours:
Best Residential Award (ÉVM,1967); address.a.teacher (BME,1984);
Hungarian Construction Memorial Plaque (1986); Badge for excellent work (22517/1987);
MTA Premium (1957, 1959, 1961); Eötvös Prize (1990); Academy Award (1994) Csonka
Medal (1995), Széchenyi Prize (1998).
His major professional activities are:
Preparing about 200 static opinions, in many cases as seconded court experts. Under his direction, using the method he has developed
above the METRO lines in Budapest, about 100 mm above the metro lines in Budapest. Damage prevention expertise for 500 buildings. A general and detailed plan for about 70 building renovations and alterations. General and detailed load-bearing design of about 150 new buildings. Managing the static design of about 100 new buildings (e.g. Sugár store, Szeged Department Store, Szeged Municipal Library). Development and formulation of many design and sizing standards.
Subjects taught:
Technical engineering: Masonry structures, Wooden structures.
Regular object: Reinforced concrete structures I and II. Additional subject: Strength II (until 2000),
Optional objects Diagnostics of load-bearing structures, Dynamics of structures
Research areas:
a, His activities in the field of shell structures, including, in addition to his designed and constructed shell structures, user-friendly calculation procedures, the formation of several new shell forms or shell forms, and in particular his procedure for stability testing of reinforced concrete shells.The latter became the international recommendation of the IASS International Shell Structure Association.
b, Research work and elaborated calculation procedures for hundreds of buildings due to the descent of buildings due to the descent of buildings due to soil movements, in particular in the area of crack damage, which has been used for hundreds of buildings to reduce the damage caused by METRO construction.
c, His theoretical and experimental research on the dynamics of plastic structures in the field of earthquake damage, in which he showed that the earthquake sizing procedure used in many countries around the world contains a serious error, which resulted in many more buildings being destroyed worldwide, claiming a lot of lives than they should have. Its results and proposals, as part of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences of the European and International Earthquake Engineering Association,
presented at the World Conference on Earthquake Engineering.
d, the development of a theory of steel-fibre concrete structure that is consistent with normal reinforced concrete structure sizing and thus provides the possibility to use steel fibre reinforced concrete structure. The theory was confirmed by experiments.
e, Elaboration of the correction of the Coulomb theorem of friction, according to which, after reaching a certain value of the astringent force, the fact of friction decreases not by the astringent force, but until the fractional value is reached. He confirmed the theory with hundreds of boton experiments.
