Lateral force in arches
Topic description:
In the case of arches, it is crucial that the lateral force is taken by some support structure. The lateral force depends on the geometry of the arch and the magnitude and distribution of the load on it. However, it can also be seen that the assumptions and approximations of the models used in our calculations obviously affect the calculated lateral force. The question can be formulated: what model is it recommended to use in order to obtain a reliable result for the horizontal support reaction force (i.e. the lateral force) that occurs. Can we give an upper estimate of the lateral force for a specific arch? When processing the topic, the main goal is to understand the conditions affecting the lateral force of arches through simple tools. Image source: http://themasonryarch.com
